Happy Wednesday! I hope y’all are having an awesome day. Today, I wanted to share tips on learning how to be alone. I know a lot of people can love or hate to be alone. I love it. I like my time and space to myself. But sometimes I can definitely get bored or lonely and these are my tips to snap out of it.
1. Organize
When I’m bored or lonely, I immediately stop myself from that feeling and just get busy. I’ll vacuum, clean my bathroom, and tear apart my closet just to put it all back and organize it. The best way to get away from loneliness is to stop the feeling when it starts. Stay busy. You’ll quickly realize that you’re totally independent and are fine being by yourself.
2. Workout
A workout is good for the soul y’all. Working out releases endorphins which increases happiness. I’m trying to get back into a workout routine, even if it’s just 30 mins a day. It helps you feel happier, more energized, and independent. Start your morning off with a workout or if you start to feel alone, head to the gym. Not only will you be around people, you’ll get your mind off whatever is wrong or stressing you.
3. Go to a coffee shop
Currently sitting in one now because I’ve had the day off and no ones home and I honestly was feeling a little lonely. Instantly fixed by sitting in an over crowded coffee shop, grabbing a warm chai latte, and working on my computer. Don’t know anyone here, but being in the presence of people helps to not feel alone. If you work from home, or you’re in college and always doing school, go to a fun coffee shop. Look some up online and work from there whenever you are tired of your home or need to get out for a bit. Even just going for an hour is going to improve the feeling of being alone.
4. Get outside
Stepping outside or going in public is the fastest way to get over the feeling of being alone. Walk your dog, go for a run, head to the grocery store, etc. Fresh air is sooooo good for your mind, body, and soul. Even if I just take a walk to my mailbox I just feel better. My mom always told me when I was in a funk growing up, that I just needed to go outside. And every time it worked! You just feel better.
5. Talk to yourself or a Pet
Haha. I’m laughing writing this because I know y’all are going to think this is so silly. But it works. Sometimes talking to yourself and saying your own thoughts is good for the soul. I don’t really like talking to myself, so I talk to my cat, Coco. I will talk to her all day long if I’m home. If something is bother me, I tell her. If I found a really cute dress online or have a to-do list in my mind, I tell her. Yeah, maybe she can’t talk back and is probably staring at me like I’m crazy… but it helps a lot when I’m alone. You can even call a friend or your mom if that’s more comfortable. But any sort of communication whether it’s with yourself or not, is going to stimulate your brain and not let you get caught in trap of loneliness.
So there’s my 5 tips to help get over loneliness. I have an extremely busy schedule but some days everything is canceled and I have a whole day to myself. Or like this Summer, all my friends, boyfriend, and people I see went home for the 3 months. I know like 3 people that stayed in Lubbock, so it can get really lonely. But not if you make the best of it! I totally encourage independency and time alone. It’s good for you. Just don’t fall in the trap of being sad about it. I hope y’all enjoy your alone time with these tips! 😉
