Most of y’all know I began my running journey back in April. I was the girl who ran like a 30 min mile for the middle school P.E. class and was always last after everyone haha. I’ve struggled with asthma the majority of my life but have outgrown it since I’ve been an adult, I only get asthma attacks when my allergies are bad or if I’m sick.
So the fact I run 2 miles 3-5 times a week and it’s become just a regular part of my routine is HUGE. I’ve been working on this and training myself since I first decided to start running earlier this year. My goal is to get up to running 4 or 5 miles pretty easily within the next year.
With it getting cold outside, I’m determined to still continue running but I wanted to share a few tips that I’m using for myself.
#1: Dress warm! I actually shared a cold weather activewear blog post the other week for great pieces to bundle up with. Although, don’t dress too warm or else half your run will be you stripping off the layers haha.
#2: No mesh sneakers: Opt for a winter sneaker that doesn’t have mesh so your feet stay warm and dry. The sneakers I have contain a knit lining.
#3: Don’t stress the pace. Something I’ll be reminding myself but I’ve read to just be consistent with the running and not stress pace in the winter (unless you’re training for a marathon or something). With wind speeds changing, temps dropping and going up in Texas, if you plan consistency over speed…. I think that’s the better bet! P.S. I use the Nike run club app (it’s free) to help with my pace.
#4: Remember WATER! I’ll be carrying a bottle with me on my runs but will probably do room temperature water so if it’s freezing out, I’m not drinking more freezing cold water on top of it.
Thanks for reading! xx
