Our Wedding Reception

Y’all know what day it is!! #weddingwednesday. Today, I’m sharing some photos and details on our wedding reception. My goal for the reception as far as the night went, was for our family and friends to drink and dance a lot and basically just have one big party haha. We budgeted in other ways to ENSURE we had an open bar.

It was a night Josh and I will never forget!

Details/ decor:

Our florists did an amazing job! For the reception, it was flipped in the same space. So everyone went up into the house for cocktail hour and the ceremony space was flipped to the reception. This definitely makes it harder on your vendors/florists because they’re rushing to get everything put together. We used mainly everything from the ceremony…. we placed the lanterns everywhere, used our floral arch as a backdrop by our head table, etc. I really wanted a dramatic head table, so we skipped any extravagant decor on the guest tables. The guest tables had a little greenery, and a candle. Super simple but also allowed for more space on the tables for everyone as well.

Our head table had about 18 people and had tall candelabras and a long garland of greenery, eucalyptus, and white roses. Loved it SO much and it was exactly what I had envisioned.

Music:

Our DJ was SO awesome. We found him via the internet and loved his vibe. After our first meeting he told us we can also add on a drummer for a little extra. THE COOLEST dj/band. Of course it was WAY less expensive than an actual band yet the drummer add on gave it that live music feel. So happy we had them both. They did an incredible job + were young and fun!

The Food:

Our food was good ole Texas barbecue. A Texas classic honestly haha! We did family style since our venue is smaller and everything was pretty jam packed. I think it worked out well! We had brisket, salad, and a bunch of sides that I honestly can’t even remember. The night was SUCH a blur.

The Cake:

My Mother in Law actually made our cakes!!! For our wedding cake, it was a 4-tier white cake with buttercream frosting and the bottom, large layer was delicious red velvet. It was decorated in white roses, eucalyptus, and greenery. The grooms cake was my FAVORITE (and I sadly didn’t get a bite of this and I’m STILL bitter about it because I kinda took charge on this flavor because I’m such a chocolate girl!!) I picked a chocolate ganache cake and Josh of course wanted it TTU themed. Also, his cake table was supposed to have a tablecloth FYI…. just pointing little things out like this to show y’all that many things went wrong my day / forgotten about but it doesn’t even matter!!

Gifts for Guests:

Everyone is different as far as what you want to spend, and what you want to do for your guests. Everything I read before the wedding, basically said that it’s kind of rude not to get your guests a gift. Of course, they get a free meal and lots of alcohol BUT it’s just a nice gesture to offer a little “thank you” gift. Since we had like no budget for this, we had koozies made that everyone received and my sweet MIL also made these INCREDIBLE winter truffles. She made three different kinds (she’s a wonderful baker!) and boxed them up super cute. We had them in every seat on the table for everyone so we didn’t have to worry about passing them out. So many people raved about them! So grateful she did that for us.

Our Exit:

Our exit was such a fairytale moment for me. Some other things we left out of our budget were sparklers or anything of that sort. We just had people do their phone flashlights as we exited and it was SO FUN. At the end of the walkway, we had a horse carriage ride waiting for us and it was amazing. Since our venue was in the city, the horse carriage took us through the park and to our hotel and it was the most incredible 20-30 mins just soaking in the pure bliss of our night.
