We’re halfway through the week and I’m counting down until I’m on a plane to Dallas, Friday! But until then, I’ve been daydreaming about my little getaway last weekend to Marfa, Texas.
My roommate and I got so many messages about our trip so I wanted to share EVERYTHING we did, a little about Marfa, and what we thought about it!
So in early June, my roommate/best friend and I decided we needed a little vacation together but we are both non-stop working and going to school so we only had Saturday/Sunday available. We knew it had to be fairly close and we had talked about visiting Marfa for at least a year… so a hotel was booked 🙂 We brought along my friend Michael, who is seriously the greatest friend ever and our friendship goes wayyyyy back to freshman year of High School.
Marfa is known for being funky, artsy, and a super small town of only 2,000.
24 Hour Guide:
Saturday, July 22
– 7:30 a.m.
ON the road!!! We left our house nice and early, made a stop at Mcdonalds and hit the road! The view is a little unpleasant and dragging the first 2 hours from Lubbock, but the last two and a half are absolutely gorgeous! Once you hit Balmorhea, it’s mountains and hills and winding roads. We were in awe that this was apart of Texas. That last bit of the drive was amazing
-12:00 p.m. Check into Hotel
Our check-in wasn’t until 4 p.m. but we got lucky that they had our room available. We stayed at Hotel Paisano. It was absolutely beautiful, pleasant, and very cozy. Our room was smaller but fit us 3 perfectly. We also had a little patio/terrace with a fire place and it was adorable. There’s a few other hotels in Marfa… including Hotel Saint George (want to stay there next time!), Thunderbird, and then El Cosmico which is more of a really cool camping ground with trailers and teepees.
Everything in Marfa is seriously under 5 minutes to get too. It was awesome and really easy to navigate. 
-1:30 p.m. Lunch at Food Shark
If you’ve never heard of Marfa… where have you been!? Haha just kidding. But Marfa originally got buzz and was put  on the map after Beyonce went there for her West Texas road trip. If you google Food Shark, her picture there pops right up! It’s classic. Food Shark is a really awesome food truck situated in Marfa with old cars and an old bus where you can go inside of, to sit and eat. It’s definitely quite the experience. The food is Mediteranean and I highly recommend the Marfalafel. 
-2:30 Coffee Break at: FRAMA
YUM. I wish I was back here. This place is next to a fun laundromat and offers incredible coffee (I recommend the Vietnamese coffee!) and ice cream.
-3:00 p.m. Back to hotel to get ready
Of course we wanted this whole trip to be one big photo-op haha but we spent the next two hours getting situated and dressed for photos and dinner. 
-6:00 p.m. El Cosmico
We weren’t staying here but I have been stocking their IG for at least 6 months haha. I loved the retro, festival vibes this place puts off. They have fun teepees, old trailers, and hammocks to lounge. We came here to snap some photos before dinner. 
– 7:30 p.m. Dinner at Capri
DINNER MUST: Capri. This place was incredible. We were amazed at the ambiance and menu. It’s a very industrial building that you enter and through the side is a beautiful garden with outdoor picnic tables. If you go inside, a really fun bar with teal barstools is there with a few industrial tables to eat at. The menu is small but mighty.
We ordered the Elote (incredible!), Guacamole (not your average guac), and a cheese plate (I don’t recommend this). The whole setting was amazing and we sat for like 3 hours just enjoying this restaurant and each others company. 
-10:00 p.m. Back To Hotel
We wanted to go see the Marfa Lights (highly recommended!) but we ended up skipping out on it after our super long day haha.
Sunday July 23
– 7:30 a.m. Wake Up Call
Annddd we’re back haha. We started our day early since we had to check out by 12:00 p.m. We got ready and packed some stuff. 
-8:30 a.m. Breakfast
We were starving and another restaurant on our list was Squeeze! Located right next to our hotel, we went in search of coffee and full stomachs. We ordered the Acai Bowls (ehhh…), waffles (SO GOOD), and Croissants (my favorite). This place was another that had a beautiful setting. You go inside to order and go outside to the cutest Terrace (feels like France) to eat. 
-9:15 a.m. Pictures and walking around
After full bellies, we went to walk around to see different art buildings, and snap some photos. There are so many beautiful spots within walking distance! 
-11:30 a.m. Check out
Back to the hotel… we packed everything up, and checked out!
-12:10 p.m. Coffee Break
Another coffee stop on my list was Do Your Thing. This place was super funky and I recommend their Matcha Green Tea!
-1:00 p.m. Prada, Marfa
Last stop was the one most known! Y’all have most likely seen this art installment everywhere but it’s about a 35 minute drive from Marfa, to the middle of NOWHERE (kinda scary). But it was so worth it! We jammed out and the 30 minutes flew by. You literally just come across it in the middle of nothing and pull to the side of the road. It was so fun to see this thing in person. There’s items inside but of course you can’t get in. The view was amazing around it!
-2:00 p.m. HOME
And the 4.5 hour trek back home began. This trip was so fun, quick, and memorable!
I recommend anyone to take a little weekend getaway to Marfa. It’s relaxing and different. I still have a few things on my list I wanted to do there… so another adventure there is in my near future 🙂
